street_sign_success_failure_200_wht_175Successful people are goal orientated and they know what they want. They are also very single-minded and they will focus on doing whatever it takes to achieve their goals.

Before you think to yourself you don’t need to set goals you need to consider that it may be that very thought process that is keeping you stuck where you are right now in your life.

Many people will dream of a better life and yet even though they know that successful people are usually the ones who set the goals and achieve them, unsuccessful people don’t set goals, and even if they do, they don’t stick to them.

In fact only about 20 per cent of people ever set themselves goals. And out of those people who do set goals 70 per cent will fail to achieve them. That leaves about 6% of all people who set and achieve their goals.

So 94% of people float around in life with no real direction, whilst life happens to them, hoping they might get a pay rise or be promoted. For many of these people their only real hope is that they might win the lottery one day. Inevitably most of these people will hit retirement broke.

Without goals life is aimless whereas with goals life has a purpose and a direction to aim for. The ability to set goals is the key to success in life. It doesn’t matter where you are in life right now but what does matter is where you are going.

You can determine where you are going with your thoughts and your actions. When you set goals and write them down and consistently focus your daily actions steps on achieving them you will move closer to creating the future that you desire.

If however you give up before you have tried or you give up as soon as there is a setback then you will never know what could have been.

Ironically successful people also fail more often than unsuccessful people, but because they will try more things that are unsuccessful, over and over and eventually they find a winner. Whereas an unsuccessful person would have quit before find the winner.

When you set your goals it is very important that you set specific intentions that support your purpose and you write them down. Your goals should be written in such a way that they create the inspiration for you to act and take action every day. There is a way of writing goals so that they maximise your chances of success which I write about in another email.

When you have clearly stated intentions you will receive inspired ideas at any time and place – sometimes when you don’t expect them. The key is to be open to receiving ideas and acting upon them when you do.

If you want certainty, the only certainty you have is that if you don’t have goals and intentions, the chances are you will be where you are right now in life this time next year. With goals, intentions and taking action you can start to live your life on purpose so that you achieve the lifestyle that you want for you and your family.

The bottom line is that successful take the time to set goals properly and then they achieve them. Unsuccessful people don’t think it is important to set goals, and they don’t find the time to set them, and then they drift through life.

So the important question is…

Which one are you?

And which are you going to be?
